Nursing CPR Renewal- HeartCode BLS Provider Instructor-Led Hands-On Skills Session check-offs are scheduled monthly for employees of the Division of Nursing. To renew BLS certification, Nursing Education offers the Heartcode BLS course, which is a blended format renewal. This involves completing the online didactic Heartcode BLS course followed by an in-person hands-on skills check-off with an AHA-certified instructor.

Employees outside the Division of Nursing can schedule BLS renewals with an AHA instructor within CNH (the instructor list can be found on the AHA page on the intranet), with the Transport Medicine Team, or outside the organization. The course offered through Transport Medicine is "Heartcode BLS CPR-Non Nursing."

HeartCode® BLS Online is a self-directed, comprehensive eLearning program that uses adaptive learning technology to allow learners to acquire and demonstrate Basic Life Support skills using a personalized learning path that adapts in real time to a learner’s performance. The program is designed for healthcare professionals who need Basic Life Support training for their clinical duties. Utilizing a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, Cognitive Assessment Activities, illustrations, knowledge checks and interactive activities, this program teaches BLS knowledge and skills. This method of learning provides training consistency and adaptability to different learning styles. Students can work at their own pace applying their knowledge to real-time decision making. Debriefings and coaching are provided immediately after each knowledge check and each Cognitive Assessment Activity. Students who successfully complete the cognitive portion and the hands-on session (skills) will receive an AHA BLS Provider course completion card (eCard), valid for two years.

This course is for anyone who needs CPR that isn't eligible to receive a keycode and skills validation through Children's National Nursing Education. The cost of the course covers a keycode and skills validation. The course link with embedded keycode is sent as part of your confirmation email.

If you have any quetsions, please contact Brandi Elliott at BNELLIOTT@childrensnational.org
