Course Description:

This is a 3-hour American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers recertification course and your BLS card must be current to attend.  This is not an initial certification class for the Healthcare Provider Course.  This classroom course is for Healthcare Providers who need to maintain their cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification, as well as other lifesaving skills. It includes a cognitive portion (Part 1) and skills practice and testing (Parts 2 & 3). You will be required to pass both a written (or online) test and a skills assessment.

  • You have the option of taking the cognitive portion (Part 1) online which includes the course exam.  If you do not wish to complete the cognitive portion online, you must watch the video in class and take the written test.
  • Key codes will be sent out to all participants NOT LATER THAN one (1) week before the scheduled class start date.  Key codes will only be supplied to those who register with their CNMC email address.
  • You can self-purchase a code from the American Heart Association by accessing the following link: CLICK HERE


Audience:

Children’s National Health System Nurses, Doctors, PCTs, technicians and other staff who require the Healthcare Provider Certification.


Please Bring:

If you took Part 1 online, you must print and bring a copy of the completed certificate to the scheduled skills class.

Current valid Healthcare Provider CPR card

 

Changes for 2015

In an attempt to meet the demand for BLS recertification in-house, we will be modifying the 2015  Marathon schedule:

  • Two sessions will offer the option of watching the video OR completing the online portion.
  • Three sessions will be offered that will only be skills. If you enroll in one of these sessions, you must complete the didactic portion online.  There will NOT be a video offered during these sessions.

THIS IS A SKILLS VERIFICATION ONLY.
You must complete HeartCode Part 1 online prior to attending this session.

PALS - Initial Course

Description:

Designed to aid the pediatric healthcare provider in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manage critically ill infants and children, resulting in improved outcomes.

Audience: 

For pediatricians, emergency physicians, family physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare providers who initiate and direct advanced life support in pediatric emergencies.  Course description provided by American Heart Association®

Please Bring: 

Current PALS Provider Manual and completed pre-test.  Manuals are included in the course fees. Instructions for book pickup will be sent 14 days prior to course start.  For questions, please contact us at 202-476-3199.  The pretest can be found by following this link www.heart.org/eccstudent and entering the code palsprovider.

HeartCode PALS Skills Session

DESCRIPTION: HeartCode PALS is a two-part program. First, you will complete an online course that takes about 8 hours. You then need to complete a three-hour skills session in the Simulation Learning Center. Successful completion of both components will allow you to receive an American Heart Association PALS card. The scenarios in this course are written at a critical care level. Therefore, this course is only recommended for physicians and critical care nurses.

PREREQUISITES:To enroll in this course, you must have taken PALS before. The Children's National PALS Program does not allow those who have never taken PALS before to enroll in the HeartCode version of the course. A member of the PALS Program staff will contact you after registration to confirm that you have taken PALS before. You may be asked for a copy of a previous PALS card.

RECEIVING YOUR HEARTCODE KEY: You will be emailed your PALS HeartCode key approximately two weeks prior to your course start date.

PAYING FOR THIS COURSE: If your department is sponsoring you for the course, please submit a payment form. A link to the form is available in the right sidebar of this webpage. You will be sent a promo code to use during registration. If you are paying out-of-pocket for the course, proceed to registration, where you will be prompted to enter credit card information.

PEPP-ALS

Description:

Designed to aid the prehospital provider in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manage critically ill infants and children.

Audience:

For paramedics and other prehospital providers who care for the pediatric population.

Please Bring: 

Current PEPP Manual and completed pre-test.  Manuals are included in the course fees. Instructions for book pickup and pretest completion will be sent 14 days prior to course start.  For questions, please contact us at 202-476-3199.
